The question posed was how to push glass beyond traditional craft and into the fine arts and the response is that it is happening now, has been happening and will continue to take place. Boundaries and barriers are becoming more porous as more artists, curators, writers and collectors take a less hierarchical view of materials including glass, fiber and clay, disregarding more or less the historical, moribund associations with mediums. Social media is also rapidly changing the art world in a myriad of ways and is contributing significantly to he dissolution of barriers to cross disciplinary expressions and sampling/using any material at hand if it suits the concept. It will happen organically. We are at an interesting intersection of art and technology and it is exciting to consider how the future will unfold. No doubt art will have a place in the future and it will include glass.
